Two more Rochdale stoppages

EVEN after a massive 15 stoppages in October on the Rochdale Canal, they keep coming.
Two more stoppages have already taken place over the weekend with the summit flight closed due to a broken paddle on Lock 34, Keith Gudgin reports.
Structure failure
This was followed by it being closed at Lock 59 with a structure failure as the paddle on the offside tail gate had fallen out of its guides resulting in it being non-operational.
This was named the 'Everest of Canals' when it was reopened in March 2003 at a cost of £25 million. But with such regular failures it has well lost its once proud name.
