A better way for the boaters

I AM NOT a boater or engineer, writes Howard Clarke.

But why don't CaRT run a crane lift service to lift boats [stuck with lift not working] from the Weaver to the Trent & Mersey Canal?

Cranes capable

Mobile cranes capable of lifting a narrow boat 50ft to the canal level exist it would seem a much safer and more viable option than risking life and limb on the Manchester Ship Canal.

I suppose CaRT would take a hit on the hire and project management of the operation whereas letting boaters tackle unsheltered waters that their vessels were not designed for costs them nothing—until one comes to grief and they find themselves in court.
