Harecastle also closed today

HARECASTLE Tunnel was not re-opened this morning as was first told.

Canal & River Trust state it will remain closed all day today in addition to yesterday, Keith Gudgin reports.

Not a great deal of notice was given, boaters being informed at 7.50am that the tunnel will be closed at 8am! The trust telling that unfortunately, water levels have continued to remain low.

Health & safety card

In addition the health & safety card is being played, the trust stating 'due to healthy & safety concerns, we will be closing the tunnel today (5th August) from 8am'.

As to the weekend nothing is forthcoming, and with no significant rainfall and no extra water being available, it does not look too good.

Meanwhile, we learn that boaters are arriving at both ends of the tunnel.
