Vandals blamed for low water

LOW level of water on the Chesterfield is blamed on vandals.

Canal & River Trust state that due to vandalism overnight the navigation is closed between the 18 locks from Lock 41 to Norwood Tunnel, Keith Gudgin reports.

Several sections drained

Several sections of the canal have been drained and will take a number of days to recover before the navigation can be re opened and in the meantime it has to 'assess the damage caused by these individuals'.

This is the first recorded time vandals have been held responsible for any activity on this section of the waterway it being away from 'civilisation'.
