The 'Wink' on the blink yet again

THE Winkwell Swing Bridge on the Grand Union is on the blink again.

It has failed due to a technical fault and so is unusable by boaters, Keith Gudgin reports.

WinkwellHowever this time it is not completely out of action but can only be operated by personnel on site at the swing bridge at Hemel Hempstead on the hour at two hour intervals at 8am, 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm.

Third time this year

This is the third time it has failed this year, in January and May and now presently, vying with Coxhead Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool for failures, with 'Cox on the Rocks' more often and so in the lead with Winkwell a close second.

Boaters must surely wonder why both are not properly repaired once and for all and so prevent these constant hold-ups on the navigations.

Due to unforeseen technical issues the bridge is still not fully open.
