ALL boaters receiving stoppage notices must be aware of the confusion they can cause.

But the latest concerning the Huddersfield Narrow Canal really takes some understanding, as it tells under 'Navigation: Closed':

Unauthorised boat passage

'Due to unauthorised boat passage through lock 1E. Closure of lock 3E will be reviewed tomorrow'.

What does it mean by 'unauthorised passage'? How can passage through a lock be unauthorised?

And how does such passage through Lock 1E close Lock 3E?
