A BOATER fell off his narrowboat at Welford Marina and was not able to be saved.

This occurred last Friday morning at the marina situated at the end of the Welford Arm off the summit of the Grand Union Canal, Richard Hall reports.

Full scale operation

The emergency services were alerted with a full scale operation being launched, including ambulances, air ambulance and fire appliances from Lutterworth and Wigston plus a water rescue unit from Market Harborough.

The rescue people pulled the man from the water after which paramedics attended to him attempting resuscitation, but their efforts were in vain and he was pronounced dead.

A report is being prepared for HM Coroner and identification will be a matter for the coroner, as he has not been named.
