Working platform washed away

THE repair to the Eshton Lock wall on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Gargrave is further delayed.

The recent storm washed away part of the working platform as the water flooded through the area, Keith Gudgin reports.

Not open for Easter

This means that the damaged wall that failed in September of last year will now not be re-constructed in time for proposed Easter opening, but delayed a further provisionally three and half weeks until 9th May.

This is the time the contractors require to rebuild the partially damaged working platform, meaning the wall will have then taken eight months to repair.

Canal & River state: 'Contractors are doing an excellent job and working extremely hard to re-open the canal as soon as possible'.
