Emergency dams installed at site of Leeds & Liverpool breach

THE contractors have at last installed the emergency dams on the breach at Rishton on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal with its repair expected to begin.
This is the breach that closed the waterway last October, with a temporary road now installed to allow access to the site with a compound for the equipment that will be required for the work, Keith Gudgin reports.
Work could commence soon
We are told that 'detailed designs for the embankment repair are well developed', so it is expected that work could commence soon, though no definite date is as yet proposed.
The breach and subsequent draining of the waterway means of course that there has been no passage since the 20th October.
