It's a breach on the Kennet & Avon after all!

Published: Tuesday, 26 October 2021

THE 'bank failure' on the Kennet & Avon Canal has now been described properly by Canal & River Trust as a breach.

It was stated that the failure between locks 102 and 103 at Reading was a bank failure but the trust's latest notice admits it is a breach, Keith Gudgin reports.

A breach by any other name

Our statement of the 23rd October pointing out 'perhaps again it's a breach by any other name' has proved yet it is pointless of the trust attempting to play down such serious effects to its waterways.

We are told that its contractors attended site over the weekend to assess the extent of the damage and attempted to stem the flow of water through the breach, but we were not informed if this was successful or not.

Assessing options

Engineers are assessing the 'viability of all options'  in order to get the navigation open as soon as possible.

At this time it is not possible to ascertain when this will be possible.
