Caldon remains closed

THOUGH the eastern end of the Caldon Canal was closed over a week ago, it remains closed.

This means there is no access from Hazelhurst Top Lock (10) to its terminus at Froghall, Keith Gudgin reports.

Keep the Trent & Mersey open

The reason is lack of water that instead of supplying the Caldon is being directed to the Trent & Mersey to keep it open for navigation.

The trust in monitoring the situation, but it will remain closed until there is sufficient rainfall to allow it to re-open for navigation, with further information not expected until next Monday.
