Pumping water to restore Shroppie water levels

WATER pumps have now been installed to restore the water levels lost by a breach on the Shropshire Union Canal.

This was the breach between Wharton's Lock (10) and Beeston Iron Lock which drained 20 miles of waterway between Audlem and Ellesmere Port leaving many boats stranded in late January, Keith Gudgin reports.

Had to be sourced

The delay has been caused as pumps had to be sourced and then installed and working correctly with this expected today, with water being pumped from the Gowy.

We are told it will take a few days to completely fill the 20 miles of drained waterway that includes 15 locks.

This is one of the three breaches at present affecting the Shropshire Union Canal.
