Rochdale Canal closed again

Published: Tuesday, 02 June 2020

THE Rochdale Canal is closed yet again, this time by another pump failure.

The Luddenden Foot Pumping station has failed, which means the water levels are too low to allow Tuel Lane Lock to be operated, Keith Gudgin reports.

Level too low

Though the Trust omits to state which water levels are too low, it is understood it means the pound above the lock.

The closure of Tuel Lock means there is no entry to the Rochdale at its Eastern end.  We are informed that emergency repairs will be carried out 'as soon as possible', but no date is given.
