Plank Lane Lift Bridge broke

Published: Monday, 06 April 2020

THE Plank Lane Lift Bridge (7) on the Leigh Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has failed and the navigation is closed.

1w plank laneContractors have now been on site and hope to undertake a repair, but no opening date is given, Keith Gudgin reports.

Not told the lift bridge will not swing

Also, this time we are not told that the lift bridge will not swing as we were informed of the lift bridge on the New Junction Canal!

What we are told however by the Trust is to 'remember as part of efforts to tackle the Coronavirus crisis, we are asking all boaters to stop non-essential travel so please limit movements to access vital facilities'.

UPDATE Tuesday:

The bridge has been repaired but 'the team require additional time to test the repair to make sure it has been successful'.

UPDATE Wednesday:

The repair has been sufficiently tested and the lift bridge re-opened.
