Mon & Brec closed

THE Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal is currently closed 'until further notice'.

The cause is earth being washed into the waterway between bridge 109 and 110 at Gilwern, Keith Gudgin reports.

Unable to clear

Canal & River Trust confirm that it is unable to clear the huge blockage in the waterway to allow navigation, so the canal will be closed until further notice.

The waterway is known for its sandy soil that not only causes blockages but has been responsible for major breaches in the past.
