New pumps at Tinsley

AT LONG last, new pumps are to be installed at Tinsley on the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation.

Time and time again in the past the pumps have failed closing the flight into Sheffield and time and time again have been either repaired or replaced with spare unreliable pumps for many years.

Worn-out pumps

But finally Canal & River Trust have decided to replace the obviously worn-out pumps with new ones, with the work already started on Monday, Keith Gudgin reports.

It is expected that the installation will be complete and the flight reopened on Thursday 2nd April, and then the boaters at Sheffield and those visiting will no longer be met by a closed flight, that is supplied by unreliable pumps.
