Cancellation of Chesterfield Canal Trust events

Published: Wednesday, 18 March 2020

CORONAVIRUS and the government's restrictions on numbers attending is causing massive cancellations of waterway events.

The latest to announce its cancellations is Chesterfield Canal Trust, one of the most active in its events, but tells us that either owing to the government's advice or instruction or a lack of volunteers to run the activity it has to cancel many of its events.

Vulnerable over 70

For many of its volunteers are in the vulnerable, over 70 age range, so may not be available and other younger volunteers may be self-isolating.  Activities it tells are cancelled or postponed:

¶ Our shop at Hollingwood Hub will be closed until further notice.

Our Work Party will not be meeting until further notice.

All of our canal cruises—public trips and charters—are cancelled until May at the earliest.  This decision will be kept under review.

Our Annual General Meeting, due on 25th March, has been postponed, probably until the autumn.

The Supporters’ Group Meeting, due on 7th April, has been cancelled.

The Dawn Rose Boat Pull has been cancelled.

The John Tams & Barry Coope and Hannah James & Toby Kuhn concert at our Festival has been cancelled.

Retford & Worksop Boat Club has cancelled its event that was to be held on 4th April.
