No access to Middlewich Branch from Shroppie
Published: Thursday, 30 January 2020
SUBSIDENCE by the junction of the Shropshire Union Canal with the Middlewich Branch has prevented access.
The slippage is just south of the junction by Barbridge Aqueduct Bridge (100a), with the navigation closed, Keith Gudgin reports.
Access to Chester
This means that there is no access to the Middlewich Branch along the Four Counties Ring, though there is access from Middlewich to the Chester section of the Shropshire Union Canal and to the two marinas on the Middlewich Branch.
A dam is being erected so that the waterway can be drained to allow a full inspection of the sluice, pipes and walls and so access the repairs that will be required.
There is not intimation of the time this will take.
