This time it was a 'leak'

BOATERS using the Rochdale Canal will be pleased to learn that the 'leak' was in fact just a 'leak', and not a breach after all.

All too often 'leaks'—like Middlewich and Dutton—have turned out to be breaches, but this time Canal & River Trust was correct, for it now states that it has been plugged, Keith Gudgin reports.

Plugged

The pound between locks 59 and 60 near Chadderton was drained and the area that was leaking discovered and plugged and re-watered and re-opened this morning (Thursday) at 9am.

However the Trust states that further works will be needed but can be carried out whilst the waterway is open.
