Police investigate sunken boat

THE police have searched a boat that sank on the Rochdale Nine opposite Canal Street in Manchester.

The picture by the Manchester Evening News shows officers examining the boat and surrounding area it is thought checking if anyone was trapped or had drowned, but no one was discovered.

The boat, that was flying a Jolly Roger, sank overnight opposite the Queer club in the renowned gay village on Canal Street in the city.

The emergency services were called with police making a search of the boat and surrounding area and officers standing on the boat.

Detritus from the vessel drifted down the waterway towards a nearby lock.
