More pumps fail

MORE pumps are failing closing navigations with a 14 miles pound closed..

One of the pumps at Caen Hill has failed, meaning the 14 miles pound from Devizes to Wooton Rivers is too low to allow navigation, with boats marooned along its length, Keith Gudgin reports.

Lack of water on the pound also means that there are corresponding low levels on the Crofton summit, so the waterway is also closed between Wootton Rivers lock and Crofton lock 60. No intimation of opening date.

LATEST:

The pound has recovered and the navigation now open.

Sheffield too

The pumps supplying the Tinsley Flight on theSheffiels & South Yorkshire Navigation have also failed and this time dewatering is required to solve the problem, with the promise, a last, of new pumps being installed.

The closure and dewatering to deal with this failure is due to run for a week in July, from the 22nd to the 27th. The flight is still open at the moment.
