Major redevelopment at Slough Basin

THERE is to be a major redevelopment at Slough Canal Basin.

Slough BasinSlough Urban Renewal, in a new partnership with Waterside Places, is to construct over 200 apartments and 40 houses, a shop, café and community hub overlooking the canal, with improvements to the canal and towpath.

Long held plans

The basin is the terminus of Slough Arm, part of the Grand Union Canal, with the redevelopment bringing a step closer to realising Slough Borough Council’s long held ambition of plans for the basin.

For decades the canal has been hidden from the town behind the Travis Perkins builder’s yard on Stoke Road, neglected until its recent clean up. But the joint venture will produce a complete regeneration of this area.

Works will involve the comprehensive redevelopment and refurbishment of the Stoke Wharf area and part of Bowyer Field, which is owned by the council.

The planned homes will be surrounded by extensive public open space in the 'reinvigorated' park alongside the canal, with a shop, café and community hub overlooking the canal.

The plans have now been formalised, but there is no intimation when work will start.
