A CAR driver obviously lost control when the vehicle hit another before plunging into the Thames near Abingdon.

This occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning when the driver lost control, hitting another car then plunging into the Thames, Alan Tilbury reports.

Escaped before car sank

Fire crews and police were called and found the car submerged when they arrived, but the two occupants were safe, as they had had the sense to get a door open and escape before the car sank.

It was estimated that the car had been travelling at a high speed as it was 11 yards away from the bank where it was discovered submerged.

One of the occupants was treated at the scene for shock and possible hypothermia.
