Rochdale Nine drained again

ONCE again the Rochdale Nine has been drained by vandals.

On Monday morning it was discovered that the Rochdale Canal locks in Manchester, known as the Rochdale Nine, had once again been drained by vandals, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Second time

This is the second time in just over a week that the locks have been hit by vandals it being drained the previous week with the pounds emptied between 83 and 92, with all their paddles being opened.

Once again it is the same locks between Castlefield and Brownsfield that have been drained, preventing navigation, meaning that once again water has to be let down to fill the pounds.

Nothing to stop vandals

This is now taking place, but it seems there is little doubt that next week these same pounds will be drained again as there is nothing to stop vandals opening the paddles.

Perhaps if Canal & River Trust repaired the broken anti-vandal locks on the flight then they would not have to keep filling the pounds week after week.
