THE well known owner of Avon Leisure Cruises, David Smith, has died, aged 70.

David was exceptionally well known and liked, and together with his wife Geraldine ran the company for 15 years, with David acting as skipper for their boat Spirit of Freedom. He died on the 7th of November, Alan Tilbury reports.

Plans to retire

He was well liked as quite a character with so many people knowing him, and had recently reluctantly sold the boat with plans to retire.

David will take his last journey on one of his boats from Evesham up river to Fladbury on Wednesday for a service and burial.

Childrens' Hospice

Instead of requesting flowers Geraldine has asked for donations for Acorns Childrens' Hospice, a charity that David supported and gave free trips for the children every year.
