Fire closes services

THE boaters' service station on the Walsall Canal has been shut down after a fire.

A fire broke out yesterday (Tuesday) at the Birchells Services on the Walsall Canal with it now being closed, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Electrical fault

It was discovered that the fire was caused by an electrical fault that caused considerable damage leaving Canal & River Trust no option but to close it.

Alternative facilities are at Ocker Hill and Sneyd on the Wyrley & Essington Canal.
