SUCH is the amount of litter in the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Blackburn, that it has killed natural growth with t5he result that the swans can only build their nests mostly out of rubbish.

Though swans build their nests from vegetation, such is the amount of rubbish slung into the canal at Blackburn that there is little vegetation left, it being covered in litter, Alan Tilbury reports.

Harmful

This has left mostly rubbish for a pair of swans in Blackburn to create their large nest, with locals concerned there will be something harmful for the new signets.

There have been numerous attempts to get people in Blackburn not to sling their litter into the canal, but it has fallen on deaf ears.
