Man knocked into canal

A walker on the road at Swarkstone by the Trent & Mersey Canal yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) was struck by a vehicle involved in a crash and knocked into the canal.
The collision was between a car and a van at Cuttle Bridge, with a woman, the driver of the car, and the car plunging into the canal, with the emergency services called and woman pulled out, Alan Tilbury reports.
Serious injuries
The pedestrian knocked into the waterway suffered serious injuries and was quickly removed by air ambulance to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where he remains in a critical condition.
The woman driver was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital with only minor injuries and was later discharged.
