Mercia market launches at Easter

MERCIA Marina has struck a deal with Groupe Geraud, the largest operator of local authority markets in Europe, to co-ordinate regular markets at the marina, and is seeking additional potential stall holders from the area in order to encourage and promote local produce and artistic talent.

Starting on Easter Sunday, 27th March, this will be a regular feature at the marina on the last Sunday of every month during Spring and Autumn.

Relaunching

Tony Preston, Sales and Marketing Manager for Mercia Marina, explained:

"We're delighted to be relaunching our popular Sunday market with such a prestigious operator. And we're very grateful for the support we've received from South Derbyshire District Council.

"We'd be especially pleased to hear from local artists, crafts-people, growers and makers who would be interested in selling some of their products. There's such a great pool of talent locally, so we hope they will come on board.

"Everyone else is of course welcome to pop along to the marina, and we look forward to seeing a large crowd of market-goers on Easter Sunday for our launch."

Stalls

Stalls attending on Easter Sunday will include freshly ground coffees, hog roast, curry and spices, fudge, homemade preserves, crepes, paintings, ice cream, crafts and handmade jewellery.

The Rams in Kenya charity and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust will also be running stalls, in addition to other attractions including live music and children's rides and inflatables.

Continual growth

Mercia Marina has seen continual growth since it opened in 2008, expanding from its 600 berths mooring to offering holiday lodges and, in 2014, opening The Boardwalk shopping, restaurant and office development.

The Sunday markets are one of many regular events and attractions provided by the marina for boaters, lodge owners and visitors alike.
