Councillor wants more moored boats

THE Green Party Leader of the Oxford City Council, Craig Simmons, would like to see the Oxford Canal packed with live aboards, to ease the housing shortage.

He suggests the council should invest in boats to line the banks of the Oxford Canal as 'water based communities', encouraging more 'house boats', Alan Tilbury tells us.

Both sides

It seems he wants boats on both sides of the canal, even suggesting that the council should buy boats that could be rented on the market, as are houses for tenants, adding that the council already owns the waterside land.

He obviously does not realise the number of boats already moored on the canal in Oxford, and cares little about the problems of navigation should he get his way.
