Looking bad for the Lancaster

Published: Wednesday, 24 June 2015

THE  'significant leak' on the Lancaster Canal has proved to be a hole in its bed, so the waterway is now closed at Lune Aqueduct.

The stretch of about three quarters of a mile is now de-watered and stopped-up as seen in Keith Sergeant's picture, so the section of waterway affected can be properly examined.

Water level reduced

But first the fish have to be evacuated, so the water level has been reduced to facilitate this, and when the fish have eventually been removed, the section will be drained completely.

There are boaters trapped on the Lancaster, with Lyn Hews coming from Australia purposely for a trip along the canal.

LATEST:

Too many fish in the lowered section to remove so no investigation until at least Friday.
