A new excuse

I BELIEVE that Victor, like many others, has been conned by a new excuse from CaRT for its lack of maintenance, writes James Henry.

He made quite a bit about boaters who damage lock gates having to pay for the damage, but I have to ask myself was it really boaters, as twice recently CaRT has told us that a lock is out of action because a boat caused damaged.

Both gates

The latest was the lock on the Huddersfield Narrow, but the one before this was on the Kennet & Avon where CaRT would have us believe that a boater damaged both gates on a lock!  That really takes some doing, so is this the new excuse that it is not longer CaRT's fault when a lock is out of order but a boater who has caused it?

All this apart, a sound lock is designed to take a bump or two, so again, excuse or not, it is still lack of maintenance, with the lock being in unsound condition that would cause it, if in fact it did happen at all.
