Narrowboat grounded on Ouse

THE dangers of boating on tidal waters were well shown by the steerer of the narrowboat Longdog, that became grounded on the Ouse at Boothferry Bridge.

Boating on the tidal rivers of the Ouse and Trent should only be taken with the proper charts on hand showing the sand and mud banks, and more importantly taking notice, that the steerer obviously did not.

Rescue service

He was so well grounded that it needed the Humber Rescue service to pull the boat off the sandbank, Alan Tilbury tells us.

One of the rescuers told:

"I have never seen a boat stuck like that, he was on the sandbank in the middle of the river, and could have been dangerous to passing shipping.
