Stop these idiots

THERE is a campaign underway—by students—to allow them to use Bristol Harbour for swimming!

Being somewhat deep and thus rather cold they put forward yet another silly scheme to use hot springs water from under the city to heat the water in winter, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Dangers

They obviously do not realise the dangers of moving boats in the harbour and the dangers of propellers, and further lack of understanding in that it would need the harbour to be completely drained to fixed heating pipes.

Yet it even has the support of the city's mayor who thinks it a great initiative!

But sensibly, Bristol City Council has not yet commented, but it's website states: 'The Floating Harbour is not designated as a bathing water because it is a multi-use area that includes navigation and flood defence'.

Give instructions?

Remarks Keith:

Will the Bristol Port Company issue instructions as to how to unravel a swimmer from a boats prop?

Bristol would be far better opening a new swimming pool that is safe for all to use without putting anybody at risk, including boaters etc.

We have just had some stories about students getting killed by finding themselves in rivers when they are unfit due to drink etc. giving them further and easier opportunities to get into rivers would be the height of stupidity indeed as far as I can see. Will the swimming area be patrolled 24 hours a day to stop this? I doubt it.

Let's hope common sense prevails.
