A NEW floating café—The Boat Café—has opened on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Meadows Bridge between Bradford and Avoncliff.

Based in a specially converted 70ft narrowboat it provides seating for up to 20 people inside and eight more outside on the bank. Its owner Alfie Windsor explained:

Intrigued

"People are really intrigued to sit inside an old narrowboat—especially as they normally only get glimpses into boats from the tow path.

"We've had a very busy opening week and customers seem to like what's on offer as we've lots of favourable comments. Their focus is on freshly made, simple snacks including a selection of home made cakes made just for them. Naturally everything is Fairtrade or locally sourced."

Permanently moored

The boat is permanently moored and is open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm, later in the summer, and serves passing walkers, cyclists and boaters The Boat Café also offers take-aways and complete picnics. Friendly dogs are welcome. The boat can also be hired for special occasions.

The Boat Cafe is part of the Canal Carrying Company Ltd based in Bradford on Avon that already operate the Coal Boat that delivers solid fuel, gas, diesel and wood to boats on the K&A Canal between Bath and Semington.
