Email: Need to be told

It's usually suggested that cyclists need to be told or reminded that they do not have right of way on towpaths, but I think it would be more effective if pedestrians and walkers were educated and told, in no uncertain terms, that they do have right of way, as they are so often unsure, and quite rightly afraid of dangerous speeding cyclists.

So many walkers are so polite, and think that 'sharing' the path means that they must get themselves, their children, pushchairs, hearing-impaired grandad and the dog, out of the way at the ring of a fast approaching bell, rather like a trained animal, I watch this enacted daily from my houseboat window.

Local newspapers in areas near rivers and canals, and the national press could be utilised to promote the pedestrians' right of way and give them some confidence to tip this balance in the right direction.

I think that walkers behaving differently and speaking up for themselves would work much quicker than signs.
