Email: Rowers too

I know that speeding canoeists are bad enough, but the speed that rowers flirt downstream on the Soar above Kegworth Deep Lock must take some beating.

It is just not wise to take to the river of an evening, though I know that they are not too prevalent now that winter is here.

You can meet two crews racing each other down the river obviously going flat-out, and woe beside anyone in their tracks, especially in the multi crewed boats with a cox armed with a loud-hailer. You will be told to get out of their way in no uncertain terms.

You see they, like canoeists, have the 'weapon' that powered boats must give way to non powered boats, and woe besides if you are slow at obeying. Like your other correspondent I too feel like taking a bit of retaliation.

I should add that I moor my narrowboat on the Soar where the rowers dash up and down. 4mph? It's a joke with them.
