Coventry Basin not safe anymore

MANY boaters—us included—have moored overnight in secluded Coventry Canal Basin after cruising the graffiti littered waterway, but it is not safe anymore.

Throwing stones

Vandals have been throwing stones at the moored boats and breaking the windows of the popular basin café, the Country Crust Tea Rooms, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Owners of the café, Suki Singh and Sabrina Claire, arrived at the basin to find three of their windows had been broken, leaving a mess inside, that had to be cleared before the tea rooms could be opened for the day.

Little value

The pair have now installed bars at the windows, but though it will not stop broken windows it will prevent the vandals from getting inside, though there was no money left overnight and little of value to steal.

After the evening stone throwing, some of the boats left the area to moor back up the waterway, but this now seems a regular occurrence, as Suki told that the windows had been broken before and other premises raided around the basin, and that they do not get many boats coming any longer being 'put off from coming to Coventry'.
