PROFESSOR Mark Horton of Time Team and Coast fame amongst many other television programmes is to make his inaugural tour of the Cotswold Canals.

On 16th March, Mark, who is Vice President of the Trust, will be giving his full backing to the canal project, acting as the face of the Trust at public events. The aim of the tour is to familiarise Mark with key projects on the canal and to give an overall picture of the restoration.

Tour

His tour will start at Inglesham Lock where the Thames joins the canal, followed by visits to the new workshops and restored lock at Eisey, Siddington Locks, Brimscombe Port, the visitor centre at Wallbridge, Stroud, with finally a boat trip on the newly restored canal at Ebley, Stroud, to the unique Ryeford Double Locks.

Two work boats will take Mark to Ryeford Double Locks along the recently restored canal. This will show full restoration that has been achieved. An indication will be given of the future programmes needed so that boats will arrive in Stroud from the main system and give a boost to the local economy.
