Facelift to attract tenants

THE unusual canal warehouse at the terminus of the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation is to get a facelift to attract more tenants.

The warehouse at Victoria Quays in Sheffield is unusual in that it is built on stilts over the then Sheffield Canal, and is to get a upgrade, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Remained empty

The upgrade—its third to date since 1994—to the warehouse by its owners, Canal & River Trust, is to attract more tenants, as many of its offices, etc have remained empty its access being cut-off by a by-pass.

Previous attempt to attract tenants have failed, with narrowboatworld reporting that the attempt to have continental style outdoor food service resulted in the tenants pulling out through lack of trade, due to its awkward access.

Rebecca Wilkin, Estates Surveyor for CaRT tells us it is a 'fantastic location', but cut-off as it is from the main market and shopping centre by a busy two lane highway, it will have few takers.
