Clearing the landslip

WALKING along Woodseaves Cutting  [Shropshire Union Canal.] on Wednesday I was impressed that both the canal and the towpath were pretty clear of the landslip debris described earlier, writes  Sheila Halsall.

There are signs that clearing up work is still ongoing. There is one large branch hanging over the canal on the Market Drayton side of High Bridge but this may well go back to its original state once the snow has melted.

Be dealt with

There is a very large tree stump on the tow path but there were logs that had been freshly sawn, and the recent wood ash remains of a fire. No doubt the stump will be dealt with when the weather is better. (It can be seen in the middle distance of Sheila's photograph below.)

The stump was not far from a landslip and my guess was that a large tree might well have come down and caused the slip. Otherwise the canal and towpath were as well as could be expected.

This is quite an achievement given the continuing very wet conditions which Richard described and the intrinsic difficulties of working in this cutting.
