Starting to dawn

THERE are at last signs that what the rest of us have been saying for months, since the council election nominees were announced in fact, is starting to dawn on others, writes Graham Phillips.

Despite many articles from contributors and emails from narrowboatworld readers denouncing the way in which the Inland Waterways Association hijacked the elections, some boaters have been (and in many cases still are) in denial about the influence the IWA are having on the policies CaRT is attempting to implement.

Stirred up by IWA

I believe much of the growing animosity between marina moorers and those of us who choose to not have a permanent home mooring has been stirred up by the IWA (as well as for instance the two Boating Business electees representing the hire boat industry) expressing the views of the majority of their membership with little regard for the rest of us.

The agreement formally signed between CaRT and the IWA just goes to enforce my belief that council is merely a rubber stamping operation, and that those elected have no, and have never had any, intention of independently consulting with all the boaters they are supposed to represent.
