A BOATER, found to be unconscious in his narrowboat proved difficult to reach as his boat was drifting, and it needed a rescue boat to reach him.

His boat eventually became lodged at Abbey Mill on the Avon near Tewkesbury, and paramedics from Great Western Ambulance Service were able to reach the man after Tewkesbury Fire Service launched its rescue boat and brought him ashore, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Hospital

Seven firefighters helped with the rescue, and the man was taken to hospital by ambulance. It is not known why he lost consciousness.

The rescue was particularly dangerous as the river was still in flood.
