Linear moorings not reduced

Who says on-line moorings are reduced by 10% of the spaces provided in marinas? Asks Crick moorer David Collins.

British Waterways? Oh, yeah? Not in the busiest area of the country 10 miles around Braunston.

Greedy for income

The truth is that British Waterways has been so greedy for income that it has deliberately not closed down linear moorings in line with this alleged policy.

Just look at Yelvertoft and Crick—no reduction in on-line moorings. Look at the ill-fated Barby Moorings—no reduction in Barby Straight, for example. Maybe that marina might have been set-up properly if the policy had been applied.

Great Haywood

Look further afield—no reduction can be seen anywhere in the area. Take Great Haywood as another example. Has the congestion around the new marina been reduced? Has it hell! British Waterways speak with forked tongue, methinks.

There might be a real chance of improving cruising for the many if British Waterways really did take an aggressive line with linear moorings for the few. But it doesn't. Will the new Trust be any different? Why should it be with the same people screwing things up?
