Extending Whitchurch Arm

THE Whitchurch Waterway Trust have put forward proposals to extend the arm into the town to create a new basin with moorings.

The trust believes the scheme is feasible, especially if a developer comes forward to build around the proposed basin, which it is hoped would become a tourist attraction.

Positive response

The short arm is off the Llangollen Canal above Grindley Brook Staircase, with the plans first revealed at the local Blackberry Fair, with trust members telling that the scheme met with a positive response from residents.

However, money is the problem, with a presentation of the scheme put before Whitchurch Town Council, with the hope the council will give funding.

The estimated cost at present is just under £500,000 for the basin.
