Boats vandalised

THE police have warned boat owners on the Driffield Canal to be wary of an organised gang of thieves targeting boats on the waterway.

Thieves have twice struck in the area, breaking into boats, stealing their contents and vandalising the interiors, causing an untold amount of damage, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Broken into twice

One boater has had his boat broken into twice, with thieves taking an engine, a portable oven and causing damage, that altogether will cost over a thousand pounds.

Police have warned owners in that part of the country to be vigilant as it is feared there is an organised gang realising that boats are an easy target.

Doors and windows are being broken and locks cut to gain access.  But not content to steal, the thieves are taking pleasure in damaging the boats, even throwing such as anchors, that they have no need for, overboard.
