Limited Olympics access

Published: Friday, 22 July 2011

AN AGREEMENT has been reach by British Waterways and the security services to allow limited access by boat to and from the Lee Navigation during the Olympics.

Pre-booked passages during strict times will be enforced to allow access to the booked moorings, either early mornings or in the evenings, but have still to be finalised.

Accompanied

It is understood that Inland Waterways Association personnel will accompany the boats at an undisclosed charge.

The dates of the restrictions are much longer than expected, with them being in force for nearly three months from 20th June to 10th September 2012.

Can be closed

However, it has been pointed out that any access by water can be closed by the police at any time up to and during the games if the security threat level increases.

Those craft with a pre booked mooring on the Lee will have to  travel through London, and be on their moorings prior to the Olympics, and leave at the end of the games.
