A ROAD and car park were flooded yesterday (Wednesday) after suspected vandals opened all the paddles on a lock gate on the Rochdale Canal.

Fire fighters were called to Lock 50, Moss Lower Lock at Rochdale after being alerted that a road and car park were flooded near the canal.

Wide open

Investigation by the fire people discovered that all the paddles of the lock were wide open causing water to flood over the canal bank.

British Waterways were then called in to make sure all the paddles were closed and the lock secured.  It is suspected that vandals were responsible.
