THE LONG AWAITED timber stoplogs from Scandinavia have been received.
And have been have now been installed at Woodhouse Bridge on the north side of the breach. This has enabled the removal of the temporary Portadams.
Robust solution
With the Bridgewater Canal Company telling that this is a robust medium-term solution that will stay in place until the breach is repaired and the canal reopened.
An earth dam will now be installed to the south side of the breach, near Bollington, that is currently being designed by external consultant engineers, and when installed will ensure the canal is safe and secure on both sides of the breach.
Then the temporary Portadams to be removed from this location and allow the repair works to safely commence in due course.
Opened by December
It is hoped that the Bridgewater Canal—and so the Cheshire Ring—will be reopened by December and once again open for navigation.
It was in January 2025 that the canal breached, and has turned out to be two years in its repairing.
