THERE WAS A HOST OF CLOSURES due to the present heat wave.

But some have reopened, Keith Gudgin reports.

Kennet & Avon Canal

The Kennet & Avon Canal suffered lack of water from Cadley Lock 54 to Crofton Top Lock 55.

With the trust confirming that water levels on the summit pound have successfully recovered.   The pound will be open from 10am today. Saturday. Opening hours remain the same for the summit: 0930 to 1530 hours. 

Stainforth & Keadby Canal

The repair was successful in stemming a large amount of the water entering the Keadby Lock chamber.

The lock can now recommence operating the lock when the river level is below that of the canal. Some further remedial works are still required to allow us to use the lock at the lowest levels. the trust adds.

Montgomery Canal

Water levels at Welshpool  have returned to operational levels. Welshpool Lock was unlocked yesterday afternoon, Friday.

But Belan and Pool Quay Locks will remain locked and sealed to maintain the filling of pounds until further notice. Passage will be supported by local teams as required.

Aylesbury Arm (Grand Union Canal)

It was a pollution incident that caused a navigation closure on the Aylesbury Arm'

But following an assessment by the trust's Operations and Environmental teams this has been found to be a natural bio film, with the navigation now open.

Still closed

The low water levels still have both the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and Sheffield & Tinsley Canal still closed.
